Adding cookies to the Flexperto Consent Manager via Google Tag Manager

NOT YET AVAILABLE

Flexperto allows you to add custom entries to the cookie manager via Google Tag Manager (GTM).

Requirements

  • You must have administrative access to Flexperto.

  • The GTM Container must have been successfully integrated with the Flexperto Platform (via Admin Panel). To do this, you must have given read-only access to the Flexperto email address you received from us. We will perform the integration for you.

    • Go to https://tagmanager.google.com/

    • Select the container you want to integrate with Flexperto

    • Go to Admin

    • Go to “User Management”

    • Press on the “Plus” button and “Add users”

    • Enter the email address provided by Flexperto

    • Under Container Permissions, select “Read Only” and “Done”

    • Press “Invitation”

Instructions

  1. Go to the Flexperto platform’s admin panel

  2. Go to ContentGoogle Tag ManagerCookie Management

  3. Fill out the form on this page with the data you want to add. Copy the resulting event trigger using the copy button

  4. Go to https://tagmanager.google.com/, select the container integrated with Flexperto.

  5. Select “Triggers”.

  6. Press “New”.

  7. Press on “Choose a trigger type to begin setup…”

  8. Select “Custom Event”

  9. Under “Event Name”, paste the custom event from Flexperto.

  10. Save. When asked to name the new Trigger, give it a name.

  11. You can now add this trigger to a tag (optional, Flexperto will add the cookie to the consent manager even without a trigger being associated with a tag).

  12. Publish a new version to the live environment. The list in the Flexperto Cookie Manager will update within one hour to include the new entry.

Behavior

For cookies in the Strictly Necessary category, no consent must be given. Hence, the event will be triggered on every page without an explicit opt-in.

For cookies in all other categories, the event will be triggered once the user opted-in to the entry or on page load if the user already consented to the entry.

If the user revokes the consent, all cookies listed in the Cookies section will be automatically removed. Consent cannot be revoked for cookies in the Strictly Necessary category.

FAQ

Q: We set up multiple environments on GTM. Do you support this?
A: No. The cookie list will be read from the “live” environment. The can currently not be changed.

Q: Can I use a category other than the predefined ones (Strictly Necessary, Preference, Statistic, Marketing)?
A: Yes, select “Other” in the generator.

Q: Can I translate the name / “Other” category?
A: We don’t currently support localization of these fields, only the description can currently be translated into multiple languages.

Q: Is the cookie added before I publish a new version in GTM?
A: No, the cookie is added within 1 hour after publishing.

Q: Instead of asking the user to “opt-in” to consent, can the cookie be consented to by default and the user can “opt-out” of consent?
A: No, we currently don’t support this yet.

Q: I need to change some data of a cookie added using these instructions. How can I do this?
A: You can re-generate the cookie event name (Steps #1-#3) and then in GTM change the event name of the trigger. Within one hour, the updated cookie entry is available. Note that all users will need to give consent to the cookie again.

Q: How can I delete a cookie?
A: Delete the trigger in GTM. Within one hour, the cookie will be deleted from the Flexperto platform.

Q: What happens if we de-activate the GTM toggle in the Flexperto application?
A: The cookies added via these instructions are removed from the cookie manager within one hour.

Q: What happens if the user initially consents to a cookie, but then changes their mind and revokes the consent?
A: The cookies listed under “Cookies” (in the generator) are removed and on the next page load, the GTM trigger won’t be triggered anymore causing associated tags to not load anymore.

Q: Can you add multiple containers?
A: No, we currently don’t support this yet.
